Progress update and changing direction
The word count today is 46,766. In two months, we’ve only advanced about 4,209 words. That’s an average of 2,104 words per month. If you figure about 22 working days in a month, we averaged a little over 95 words per day.
That would suck if we actually wrote every day, but we didn’t. We spent some days organizing, discussing, vamping and re-vamping scenes, creating characters, arguing, sitting, staring and eating barbecue potato chips with grape soda or Fresca.
Taylor keeps urging me to get more words into the computer. “We can rework and expand it after we get the story down.” I think she has an excellent point, but my anal side won’t allow me to get past obvious conflicts and out-of-sequence events. Damn, I just have to fix certain things before I move on.
As an example, we decided to change direction with respect to our main characters. We thought we had a good idea, but as the story developed, we all began to like different people. The bad-asses began to take a back seat to the nerds, geeks and punks. We actually started to pull for the underdogs. So we moved the story in that direction and it has suddenly become more powerful.
More on the plot later…
